These teaching notes are from a series of studies about the Church.

1 Timothy
I. Command people not to teach false doctrine nor devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. (1:3-4)
II. Requests, prayer, intercession, and thanksgiving should be made for everyone — for kings and all those in authority. (2:1)
III. Men should lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. (2:8)
IV. Women should dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. (2:9-10)
V. A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. (2:11)
VI. A woman is not permitted to teach or have authority over a man; she must be silent. (2:12)
VII. Women will be kept safe through childbirth, if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
VIII. An overseer seeks the work of oversight. (3:1)
IX. An overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to much wine, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. He must not be a recent convert. He must have a good reputation with outsiders. (3:2-7)
X. Deacons are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. (3:8-10)
XI. Wive of deacons are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers, but temperate and trustworthy in everything. (3:11)
XII. A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well. (3:12)
XIII. Point out to the church that everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. (4:4-6)
XIV. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. (4:7)
XV. Pastors should set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity, and not let anyone look down on them because they are young. (4:11-12)
XVI. Pastors should devote themselves to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching, and to teaching. (4:13)
XVII. Pastors should be diligent in these matters; give themselves wholly to them, so that everyone may see their progress. They should watch their lives and doctrine closely. (4:15-16)
XVIII. Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity. (5:1-2)
XIX. Give proper recognition to widows who are left all alone. (5:1-16)
XX. The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching. (5:17)
XXI. Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses. Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning. (5:19-20)
XXII. Pastors are to keep these instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism. (5:21)
XXIII. Pastors should not be hasty in the laying on of hands. (5:22)
XXIV. Leaders should flee from greed and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. (6:11)
XXV. Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant not to put their hope in wealth, which is uncertain, but to put their hope in God. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. (6:17-19)
