Teaching Notes: On What Is Real Faith

By Mmcgee4

Teaching Notes are Bible studies we taught before GraceLife Ministries began publishing articles online in 1995. Some were presented as sermons, others as group studies.

Our hope is that these older studies will be a blessing to you in your life and ministry. Please use them in any way God leads you.

These teaching notes are from a study from the Book of Hebrews.

[These notes are from a study taught more than 40 years ago. The notes are in outline form.]

Hebrews 11:1-3

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”

The key to our definition is found in verse Hebrews 11:27 – “as seeing Him who is invisible.”

Faith is real seeing!

By faith we can actually see the invisible!

The word “substance” translates from the Greek – “that which stands under, a foundation.”

Faith is our foundation!

Some scholars translate the word “substance” to speak of a “title-deed.” (AMP)

The word “evidence” from the Greek means – “a proof that by which a thing is proved or tested.” (AMP)

One commentator defines faith as – “Visualizing what God intends to do in a given situation and acting in harmony with it.”

[Thank you for reading these teaching notes from more than 40 years ago. My prayer is they will be a blessing to you and your ministry.]
