We are sharing Teaching Notes from a discipleship seminar taught in churches more than 40 years ago.
In our last article we looked at Part 2 of God’s Purpose For The Disciple. In this article we will look at God’s Life For The Disciple.
[These notes are from a seminar series taught more than 40 years ago. The notes are in outline form.]
How is a disciple supposed to live?
What steps must he or she take to achieve God’s fullest expectations?
In this session, we are going to look at two areas of the disciple’s life:
- The Life of Discipleship
- Steps to Living Out Discipleship
The Life of Discipleship
- He has adopted as his objective in life the same objective God sets forth in the Scriptures
- She is willing to pay any price to have the will of God fulfilled in her life
- He has a love for the Word of God
- She has a servant’s heart and is available to God at all times
- He puts no confidence in the flesh
- She does not have an independent spirit
- He has a love for all people
- She does not allow herself to become trapped in bitterness
- He has learned to discipline his life
- She is a Christian…who is growing in conformity to Jesus Christ…is achieving fruit in evangelism…and is working in followup to conserve the fruit
Steps to Living Out Discipleship
- Practice the presence of Christ moment by moment
- Read, study, memorize, meditate and apply a passage of God’s Word everyday
- Pray throughout the day
- Witness daily as God gives opportunity
- Fellowship with other Christians every day possible
Invitation
Are you living the life of discipleship? Are the ten things shared with you about a disciple’s life true in your life today?
- Let’s take a few moments to practice the presence of Christ.
- How many of you will say that you will take a portion of God’s Word and read it, study it, memorize it, meditate on it, and apply it to your life everyday?
- How many of you will pray through the day as the Spirit prompts you?
- How many of you will ask God for a daily opportunity to witness and then take the opportunities as God gives them to you?
- How many of you will seek daily fellowship with other Christians?
Pray for those who respond.
[Thank you for reading these teaching notes from more than 40 years ago. My prayer is they will be a blessing to you and your ministry.]
