Teaching Notes: On America The Beautiful – Fact Or Fantasy

By Mmcgee4

Teaching Notes are Bible studies we taught before GraceLife Ministries began publishing articles online in 1995. Some were presented as sermons, others as group studies.

Our hope is that these older studies will be a blessing to you in your life and ministry. Please use them in any way God leads you.

These teaching notes are part of a study in Isaiah.

[These notes are from a Bible study taught more than 40 years ago. The notes are in outline form.]

In studying the first chapter of the Book of Isaiah, I found a remarkable parallel between the nation of Israel and the United States of America. While Isaiah’s prophecies are specifically about Israel, people of any nation can learn from what God revealed to Israel.

Isaiah 1:4-6 “God’s Accusation”

  1. Laden with iniquity – Israel was a nation full of sin
  2. Seed of evildoers, children of corrupters – Each generation was getting worse and worse as the children became more corrupt than their parents
  3. They are gone away backward – They had forsaken the Lord God and slidden back into idol worship and heathenism
  4. Ye will revolt more and more – They hated correction. They were rebellious, stubborn, and blind
  5. The whole head is sick – Every head was sick and demented from the heads of state to the heads of the religious leadership
  6. And the whole heart faint – The hearts of the people were feeble physically, emotionally, and spiritually
  7. verse 6 – The nation was out of shape in every way and had sinned horribly against the Lord God

Isaiah 1:7-9 “God’s Chastisement”

  1. Your country is desolate
  2. Your cities are burned with fire
  3. Stangers devour it in your presence
  4. Praise God He’s left a remnant – verse 9

Isaiah 1:10-15 “God’s Rejection”

  1. God rejects our good works
  2. God rejects our self-sacrificing
  3. God rejects our formalism
  4. God rejects our social gospel

Isaiah 1:16-20 “God’s Call”

  1. Called to spiritual cleansing – II Corinthians 6:14 – 7:1
  2. Called to good works – Matthew 5:16, James 2:17-18
  3. Called to receive Grace – verse 18
  4. Called to obedience – verses 19-20

[Thank you for reading these teaching notes from more than 40 years ago. My prayer is they will be a blessing to you, your family and your ministry.]
