Teaching Notes are Bible studies we taught before GraceLife Ministries began publishing articles online in 1995. Some were presented as sermons, others as group studies.

Our hope is that these older studies will be a blessing to you in your life and ministry. Please use them in any way God leads you.

[These notes are from a Bible study taught more than 40 years ago. The notes are in outline form.]

There are two major ways to look at the Christian life: positively and negatively.

For the next few moments, I would like us to look at and accentuate the positive of Christian living.

What is the positive of Christian living?

It’s Identification!

I. The Prerequisites for Identifying with Christ

A. Baptism (Acts 8:36)

B. Crucifixion (Gal. 2:20)

C. Resurrection (1 Cor. 15:12-34)

D. Understand the two natures (chart)

Old Nature (Natural)

  • loves sin
  • hates God’s Word
  • opposed to God’s Spirit
  • desires earthly, temporal things
  • rejects Spiritual Truth

New Nature (Spiritual)

  • loves righteousness
  • hungers for God’s Word
  • guided by God’s Spirit
  • desires Heavenly, Eternal things
  • receives Spiritual Truth

E. Understand the three deliverances (chart)

  1. Deliverance of Spirit (Justification)
  2. Deliverance of Soul (Sanctification)
  3. Deliverance of Body (Glorification)

II. The Biblical Principles for Identifying with Christ

A. The Law of Liberty – Gal. 5:1, 13, 18, 25 (AMP)

B. The Law of Love – Rom. 13:8-10; 14:1-8 (AMP)

C. The Law of Expediency – 1 Cor. 6:12 (AMP)

C H A R T

How a Christian determines what is right or wrong in his or her life and the lives of others.

God established biblical principles to help each person know what to do when meeting a problem which is not clearly defined in the Word of God. These principles are the Laws of Liberty, Love, and Expediency.
