The Nilaveli police arrested a group of nine people including three Air Force personnel and a teacher who had arrived in Nilaveli area to excavate a treasure.
They were remanded till January 5 after being produced before the Trincomalee court.
This group was arrested on Thursday morning based on the information received to the Army intelligence units. Information had surfaced that a group had arrived at the beach in Nilaveli for treasure hunting.
The teacher who came in a van and a three-wheeler is a resident of Haldummulla Soragune. Police said that he is 28 years. The three airmen who are in the age group of 40 and 38 were attached to Morawewa, Uhana and Anuradhapura Air Force bases.
Other suspects are residents of Bandarawela, Katharagama and Bibile.
