This might be my fourth review about Tawlet, but I couldn’t resist sharing yet another great experience. At Tawlet, everything is just outstanding, starting with the place itself, its ambiance, its cosmopolitan clientele, the food and general relaxing spirit. I enjoyed myself every time I go there… This time I went on a Saturday where the whole ambiance is different.

We reached around noon where a cosmopolitan crowd, including tourists as well as ambassadors, were already enjoying Tawlet’s Saturday’s BBQ.

This Saturday and every Saturday, Tawlet prepares a BBQ lunch where a wide variety of Lebanese mezze, salads and other preparations, coupled with meat and poultry dishes, fill the buffet table. A feast for your eyes… Make sure to leave some room in your stomach for their dessert.

Although the place was packed, Wissam, our waiter, welcomed us and made sure we were satisfied, as we spent a memorable lunch. With a constant smile on his face, he followed our every move making sure none of our demands were left unattended to.

Tawlet has changed – I like the new details:

  • Paintings on the walls are new
  • The wine selection has been improved
  • Choose between Almaza and 961 Beer
  • More personnel is here to attend to everyone’s order
  • The games and books shelves have a wider variety of items
  • A new souk el Tayeb corner sells organic goods from the villages of Lebanon

  • Tabbouleh
  • Fattouch
  • Mix green salad
  • Egg selection
  • Foul w balila
  • Labneh w jebneh
  • Lahme bi ajin
  • Hommous
  • Arnabit bi kezbara
  • Shanklish
  • Fassolia mtabbal
  • Fatayer
  • Kebbeh nayyeh
  • Koussa w batenjen ateh
  • Frikeh bi djej

I enjoyed lunch and invite you to check it out:

  • Fattouh: cucumber, tomato, radish, mint, parsley, purslane, grenade, bell pepper and grilled bread. Fresh and tasty
  • Tabbouleh: parsley, wild lemon sticks, no berguol, tomato and onions. Uniquely made without the berghol and the idea of adding the wild lemon sticks that add all the needed sour flavor. So yummy.
  • Chanklish: cheese, tomato, green onions and olive oil. It had a reddish color since some spices are added to it.
  • Fatayer Zoube3:  Wild thyme, cooked inside a bread bite. A must try.
  • I should be honest and tell you that the meat skewers are not great, but, after all, you are enjoying an authentic open buffet without sophistication for only $30. I am not expecting to eat Al Kababji quality.
  • Labneh and cheese require a bit more salt. Their taste is fade
  • Can I suggest you add Lebanese toasted Lebanese bread to the basket

I discovered new Lebanese desserts while indulged in more popular ones:

  • Maklouf bel jozz
  • Louzina (kaak choufan)
  • Cherry jam tart
  • Cheese knefeh
  • Melon ice cream from Patisserie Vanig. This is so good and light at the same time

PS: Dear management, please make sure to play some Arabic tunes which better fits the ambiance of the Tawlet.

I simply love this restaurant. With no competition around, Tawlet is an imperative stop for any tourist visiting Lebanon. As for us locals, pass by monthly to indulge in real Lebanese food from the villages of our country, which only a few still know how to master in our changing world.
