Tango And Cash: 35th Anniversary- Sylvester Stallone + Kurt Russell = Lethal Weapons

Quick Take: The 80’s knew how to make fun action films. We’ve confused many of them with being technically proficient, or film classics, but truthfully is there a difference between a fil that seems to have achieved a high level of filmmaking, or a film that achieved a high level of entertainment value, and has proven rewatchable as a result? Lethal Weapon and Beverly Hills Cop certainly come to mind, but the 80’s was full of fun buddy cop movies, including Tango And Cash. This Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell team up is definitely in the tier below the aforementioned pair of untouchable action classics, but over the 35 years, I think Tango and Cash still has fans. You don’t always need to be at the top of your genre to have a lasting impact, because those who really love a specific genre or subgenre tend to look below just the top 2 or 3 films, and have a much broader appreciation. So, for fans of this type of film, Tango and Cash very much is a classic.

But, even with audio description, and still two living leads, is it quite standing the test of time on a broader level? Without the benefit of channel surfing, is a younger generation stumbling upon this? Sure, they might always be drawn to Lethal Weapon and Beverly Hills Cop, but the rest of the films, especially ones like Tango and Cash that didn’t get a sequel, could get lost along the way. I had fun, with an over the top, totally silly premise. It has no shame in knowing what kind of film it is, and that’s what makes it a good time. For more, check out my video.
