Talking Emmy’s: Best Supporting Actress In A Drama

Posted on the 07 June 2024 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Always remember, Emmy voters are largely and inherently the most boring group of people. So, if you were hoping to see someone from Strange New Worlds, Evil, The Girls On The bus, or any other drama… no. Based on who is in the cast, I think hBO will dominate this category, which last year gave them four nominations out of White Lotus, not to mention a nomination for J Smith Cameron from Succession.

1) Will Be Nominated: Elizabeth Debecki (The crown)

Should Be Nominated: Elizabeth Debecki (The Crown)

If I had to nominate any singular performance from The Crown, I’d pick Debecki. I think this category is likely to be very limited in scope,as Emmy voters lean in on what they are familiar with. Even if you look at House Of The Dragon, a recent genre show in this category, it didn’t get a ton of acting nominations. The LAst Of us fared better, but mostly in guest. So, I’m about to bore you to death. Debecki might be the only outlier here.

2) Will Be Nominated: Greta Lee (The morning Show)

Should Be Nominated: Greta Lee (The morning Show)

Lee spent most of the season dealing with her past literally coming back to haunt her, while still clashing with everyone below and above. She had a very stressful season, but more importantly, everyone now knows who she is after Past Lives, which garnered her a lot of attention.

3) Will Be Nominated: Holland Taylor (The Morning Show)

Should Be Nominated: Nicole Beharie (The Morning Show)

I have a feeling that Beharie, who is a little less well known and also less adored by the voters will be the morning Show cast member who gets left out. I might be wrong. But, I’m sticking to not swinging for the fences anymore with Emmy voters. Taylor had enough solid scenes that I can see her getting the nomination.

4) Will Be Nominated: Julianna Margulies (The Morning Show)

Should Be Nominated: Julianna Marguilies (The morning Show)

As the partner to Reese’s Bradley, she witnessed the devolution of her partner, ultimately figuring out Bradley’s big secret. After all that good will she earned on The good Wife, I see her picking up a supporting actress nomination, since we know voters watch The morning Show.

5) Will Be Nominated: Taissa Farmiga (The Guilded Age)

Should Be Nominated: Sophie DiMartino (Loki) Guilded Age has so many cast members, i might get the three slots I’m giving to the show wrong, but Farmiga has built up not just a strong character on the show, but enough of a presence as an actress to get this nomination. I mean, last year Aubrey Plaza was in this category.

6) Will Be Nominated: Cynthia Nixon (the Guilded Age)

Should Be Nominated: Cynthia Nixon (The Guilded Age)

Her banter with Baranski is actually one of the more entertaining features of the show. So, I’m Ok with this. Nixon is also an Emmy favorite, and likely will come along with the show.

7) Will Be Nominated: Christine Baranski (The Guilded Age)

Should Be Nominated: Christine Baranski (The Guilded Age)

See above. She’s been Emmy nominated before, but voters never did pick up on The Good Fight, and these actresses didn’t get nominated for the first season. It is only because the show is HBO, and they have nothing else to throw their weight behind.

8) Someone From Shogun

Shogun is going to get at least one supporting actress in here. Trying to predict which one is tough. There are a couple that seem poised to get the spot, and it is possible with the love from Shogun, that they could land two spots. But I know at least one nomination must be coming their way.

The other categories I’ve entertained the possibility of some other shows getting nominated.I truthfully believe that only four shows will get nominees here, and those shows are The Crown, The Morning Show, The Guilded Age, and Shogun. that’s it. You can swap a name but ultimately I don’t see Fallout, Mr And Mrs Smith, Three Body Problem, The Curse, Slow Horses, Will Trent, or any other shows sliding in here.
