Featuring members of Heavenly, The Pooh Sticks and The Dentists, Swansea Sound have shared a fabulously festive single in ‘(I Wanna Wear A) Mirrored Hat Like Slade’ – It’s CHRISTMAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS after all.
Available digitally and as a special CD inspired a greetings car designed by Swansea artist Catrin Saran James, the song opens with line about Grandma receiving an iPad for Christmas but soon ‘getting porn and funeral plan ads’ before moving on to Spotify subscriptions, Brewdog special Yule Log beer and a ‘Paltrow candle’ (‘It’s got a smell I can’t quite handle’).
We then move on to Grandma getting up and dancing to Mud and Wham and how ‘What I wanna do is take your hand and dance the night away’. With sugar-sweet hooks and the finest of festive observations, this is a surprisingly sincere but funny and warming ode to a great British band and the most wonderful time of the year.
