Badulla Police arrested a suspect in connection with the double murder that took place in a house in Hingurugamuwa area of Badulla where another woman also had sustained serious cut injuries yesterday.
Police found the bodies of two women H.M. Ranmanika (85) and R.M .Jayavathi (55), who were the mother and the daughter on Saturday (10) and suspect that they had been killed on Friday night (9) or Saturday morning.
The arrested suspect is a 33-year-old three-wheeler driver of Weeriyapura, Badulla.
According to Police, the suspect had committed the crime after one of the women refused to offer him Rs.20,000 as a loan. They had been hacked to death with sharp weapons and the injured woman R.M. Misinona (60) has been admitted to the Badulla Hospital.
It was reported that the suspect had forcibly taken the gold chains of the murdered women before the crime, but this is yet to be confirmed by the Police. Police were to produce the suspect before the Courts. Badulla Police are investigating.
