Support For Syrian Military Strike Is Lower Than Support Previous To Other Actions
Posted on the 07 September 2013 by JobsangerThe charts above were made from information contained in a recent Gallup Poll conducted on September 3rd and 4th of a nationwide sample of 1,012 adults (with a margin of error of 4 points), and of similar Gallup Polls taken before other military conflicts had begun.
Note that support for the military action against Syria remains low -- only about 36% among the general public. That is lower than the public support before any other recent military action taken by the U.S. government. The American people are either getting tired of the incessant wars or they just don't see what can be accomplished by a military action against Syria -- maybe both. In any case, the president (and Congress) has some convincing to do before they get the majority of Americans to approve of another military action.
Support is very low among both Republicans (31%) and Independents (34%) for the proposed strikes against Syria. There is a little bit more support from Democrats (45%), probably out of a desire to support the president, but even among Democrats the support is not a majority.
I hope that our government gets the message and stops this insanity. Americans do not want another war (even a limited one), especially since most don't see that much can be accomplished by doing it (other than the killing of more innocent civilians). The United States really doesn't have a friend in the Syrian civil war, and we would be better served by just staying out of the conflict.
