Warren Pietsch gains altitude in the Texas Flying Legends Museum Spitfire during a flight performance during the 2017 Pikes Peak Regional Airshow.  This aircraft is an actual veteran of the D-Day invasion, flying missions over Normandy, and was acquired by the TFLM in 2015.  This aircraft entered service in 1944 and saw action with a Polish RAF squadron, then a French RAF unit. Postwar she was refurbished and sent to the Royal Netherlands Air Force where she saw more combat in Indonesia. Retired in 1949, she spent many year on a pole until the early 1990’s when she was raided for parts for another Spitfire restoration. Sold to a U.S. buyer in 1995, she took to the air again in 2004 after a long restoration.
