Superlove Merino Baselayer Set

By Catty212
The Little Man was lucky enough to be sent a Superlove Merino base layer set to try out.
Superlove wasn't a brand I'd heard of and if I'm honest, I didn't really know much about merino wool. I've since found out that Merino is a very fine, soft type of wool that comes from Merino sheep which are from the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The sheep endure very hot summers (35°C) and exceedingly cold winters (-15°C) so its understandable that they've evolved to be able to cope with all climates.
Merino wool naturally insulates and helps regulate your little ones temperature. The Merino wool fibres trap air bubbles which helps make the material breatheable and reduce the chances of your little person over heating when the weather is warm and when it's colder the Merino creates a small amount of heat when moisture from the skin or the air is introduced to the fabric - completely magic!
The wool is also ethically sourced and made into products by a Bluesign accredited manufacturer.
With the material being wool I had expected it to be quite rough and stiff, but I was very surprised to find that it was extremely soft and stretchy. I was also pleased to see that it's suitable for all skin types, even little ones with sensitive skin. I can't believe how wonderful the wool actually is, check out the Superlove website. I bet you'll be surprised to read that the wool is has anti fire and UV resistant properties, naturally repels dust and contains natural lanolin and keratin both of which have powerful antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Is there anything that Merino wool can't do?!

You can buy various products from the Superlove website including the baselayer set (that we were sent), sleeping bags and gorgeous gifts sets which would make an ideal 'new baby' gift.

The products are at the more expensive end of the market, but for a quality product that will last and has so many useful concepts I do think it's worth paying the extra money for.
The base layer set costs £49. It's available in sky blue, soft red, french navy (like the one in the pictures), pure ivory and blush pink. It consists of two pieces, a long sleeved body suit and a pair of leggings. The pieces can also be bought separately.

The material feels so soft and durable. It stretches enough to put on easily and fits The Little Man really well. The size we were sent is 3-6 months but the body suit fits him perfectly. The leggings are on the slightly long size so we have to wrinkle them round the knees a little until his podgy legs grow a little.

I really like that both the body suit and the leggings have built in hand and feet covers, it means we don't have to use additional scratch mitts or socks at night (and I think he looks like a mini Milk Tray man!)

The Little Man seems happy wearing the base-layer set. We've used it most at night as sleepwear. I've found that sometimes during the night when he wakes up for a feed his hands are really cold, but since we've started using this he's felt much more toasty warm and he's also started waking up less. I don't know whether this is a coincidence or whether it's because he's more comfortable during the night.
The base layer set is machine washeable and can be tumble dried, though I haven't tried that. I've simply hung it on the line when there's been a little wind, and it's dried very quickly. To be honest though I've only washed it the once so far, as it seems to repel The Little Man's grubbiness! He's pretty sloppy when he's having a feed and we either get covered in milk or some lovely sticky baby vomit, but a quick rub with a dry cloth and all traces of dirt seem to disappear.
I can't honestly express how much I like the base layer set we were sent to review. I am a total Merino wool convert. The Little Man always feels snuggly and warm he'd wearing it and I can't believe how many things Merino wool actually does.
I would like to buy one of the sleeping bags so he could use that while this set is being washed, at £65.99 they are quite expensive but they will last your little one up to age 2 and beyond!
*I was sent the item free of charge for the purpose of this review however all thoughts and opinions are my own.*
