From daring designs to the capers of cartoon fish, Ars Electronica Centre is the museum of the future where you can enjoy super science with plenty of sensory experience.

Ars Electronica Centre

Opened in 1996, the Ars Electronica Centre in Linz is a science museum with a difference. It combines digital and media arts with sound to create a sensational sensory experience that can be enjoyed by all the family. Using fascinating photography and laser lighting, visitors are treated to sights that span the centuries and delve deep into the future.

It is the home of one of the few Cave Automatic Virtual Environments open to the public – a world where virtual reality gives visitors views of objects that appear to float in the air. 3D sound and video make truly memorable moments for young and old alike.

Ars Electronica Centre takes you on a journey through science, society and some of the most amazing artefacts of our ancient world – like the long lost city of Pompeii, buried for centuries in the volcanic ashes of Mount Vesuvius. And coincidentally, the setting of the first conservation of our cultural heritage through 3D laser scanning!

Fantastic Photography and Amazing Androids

With razor sharp images you are transported in time through the universe to see:

  • the skies at night;
  • the sophisticated, but sedentary Indian Anansazi tribe, an ancient peublo people of Native America;
  • South Sea Islands where drawings dance;
  • and the daring design construction of the Cathedral of Beauvais, with its Gothic build and highest vaulted ceiling in the world.

There are science labs where you can be amazed by androids; surprised by a pet seal; and enter the test factory of the future. For tiny tots there’s something too. Light mixing and play with a water wheel actively encourage hands-on experimentation. And there’s so much more for everyone to do.
