Yosemite National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famous for its breathtaking granite cliffs, waterfalls, giant sequoia trees, and diverse animal and plant life. One of the most magical experiences here is watching the first light of day touch these natural wonders. As the dawn breaks, the valley slowly lights up, revealing a picture-perfect scene that seems to be painted right in front of your eyes.

One of the most popular spots in Yosemite for sunrise is Glacier Point. This viewpoint offers a panoramic view of Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, and the High Sierra peaks. The first rays of the sun on Half Dome are truly a sight to behold. There is a shuttle bus that you can take from the valley floor up to the Glacier point trail or you can hike the Panorama trail from Curry Village. Make sure to arrive early as it can get crowded, and don’t forget to dress warmly as it can be chilly in the early morning.

Another iconic spot to catch the sunrise is Tunnel View. This viewpoint offers a classic view of Yosemite Valley, including El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Fall. As the sun rises, it gradually illuminates the granite walls of El Capitan and Half Dome, creating a spectacular sight. Most visitors to the park will see tunnel view as they enter from the Wawona Tunnes on the southwest entrance to the park. But if you take the Inspiration point trail, you can reach even more spectacular views of the park.

Located along the Tioga Road, Olmsted Point offers a different perspective of Half Dome and the surrounding peaks. The sun rising behind you and lighting up the granite surfaces in front of you is truly awe-inspiring. The trail is less than 500m, but it intersects the Snow Creek trail which can be hiked up from the valley floor (best start very early to catch sunrise on this one)
