For me, Sundrifter's 2018 album Visitations is one of the best heavy stoner rock albums of recent years and hardly any other album has been on my recordplayer more often than this one.
Now - after what feels like an eternity, the Boston-based trio is releasing their third album and the wait was so worth it.
Fuzz-laden heavy stoner rock with Kyuss-like desert vibes meets spaced-out heavy psych, slightly scratching the post-rock surface - and bordering on mid-90s grunge in places.
The whole album is carried by an incredibly dense sound structure of bass and drums (Paul Gaughran / Patrick Queenan) and the mindbending guitar work and great vocals of Craig Peura. Everything is of one piece, flows into one another, but still stands on its own and all of that makes this album a real rollercoaster ride that grabs you from the first second. "An earlier time" will definitely be in my top 3 of 2024!
