Speakeasy bars that started initially in the Prohibition-era in New York and other parts of the US to enable groups of people to get together in a clandestine setting became popular and trendy post the Prohibition. Covert entrances, passwords to enter and artisanal cocktails have made such bars popular all across the world. Delhi-NCR also has a few to boast such as PCO and Cocktails and Dreams.
The Secret Garden in GK-I offers a similar appeal with it's back-alley entrance and super sound proofing that'll never let you guess that there's a rocking bar above Sakley's - The Mountain Café. Brought to us by the same owners, the terrace bar has a completely different vibe from the café, as well as a distinct menu and drinks.
With the onset of winter, The Secret Garden is ready with all-new infusions, seasonal cocktails and Sundowners 5-7pm every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The latest infusions have been created with much passion and offer rich, warm flavours in the form of Fig Gin, Coffee Orange Rum, Chocolate Bourbon and Plum Whisky, which are then used to create artisanal cocktails. The bitters too are made in house and steeped from anywhere between 6-12 months. Fresh herbs and flowers are grown organically at the terrace garden, which are also used as garnishes for various drinks. We loved the dark chocolate sangria; gin and tonic with cold brewed coffee; and, gin with three kinds of house-infused bitters. In keeping with the Speakeasy vibe, you will also find classic cocktails from the Bramble to the Negroni to the Sazerac and Blood & Sand, named for Rudolph Valentino's 1922 bullfighter movie Blood and Sand.
The menu offers tapas-style bar food including beer batter fish & chips, pulled pork sliders, pizzas and jacket potatoes. The Hot Louisiana Chicken Wings are amongst the best chicken wings in the city. They are hot and sweet, crispy and loaded with the delicious sauce.
Even though The Secret Garden is located in a busy market, it is an oasis of great music, artisanal cocktails and delicious food. Head here for a quick drink or a leisurely evening under the stars.
