As you travel around the region you can visit the Village of Elsah that is a early American village, and like Alton, it was an important port on the Mississippi River. During the early 1850s the area was booming with river traffic, which utilized the flour mills, distilleries, manufacturing and warehouses. Today, the Village of Elsah is full of little hidden treasures, and offers a trip back in time where you'll find picturesque beauty, historic homes, lush gardens and a sense of a simpler way of life.
Starting in the summer as July heats up we find ourselves headed out to cool off at Raging Rivers Water Park. The water park has been expanded and is located along the scenic bluffs near Grafton. Then there is the Aquatic Center in Wood River, which is another place for families to dive into. Cruise down along the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers for a day of parasailing, water skiing, or wave running all season long. Parasailing excursions are breathtaking as you fly above the mighty waters. There are several Marinas in Alton, Godfrey and Grafton on the Mississippi River that have docking areas, fishing supplies and a place to stop in for a snack.
If you're ready for a round of Golf you can pick from nine different courses on any summer day. Alton’s Spencer T. Olin Golf Course was recognized nationally when it hosted the 1999 USGA Men’s Amateur Public Links Championship.
