Summer: How to Make Your Home Match the Season

By Suzanne Robinson @mummy2twinsblog

Summer is here and with it lovely warm days and balmy nights. It’s time to open the drapes, throw open the windows and let the summer season in. Why not take it one step further and add some summer sizzle to your décor?

Summer Style

You can add some summer style to your home with relative ease. Take down heavy curtains, pack away blankets and throws and stow the dark colours away. You can bring them back when the cool weather returns. Then add some fresh, light additions around the house and you will have a home that says summer! You may not be able to afford to have a summer home to move to, but with a little innovation and creativity you can turn you existing home into just that.

A splash of paint will really freshen up your home. Consider painting one wall in your kitchen or living room as a feature wall. Choose a summer color like blue, green or yellow. Add Green

One of the best ways to add summer to your home is by adding lots of indoor potted plants. Go for bright green ferns and anything with flowers. Plants and greenery will revive your home in no time. It’s also a really nice idea to buy or grow fresh flowers and have them standing in vases. Frangipanis and hibiscus are wonderful summer choices.

Change the Linen

Change the linen throughout your home. Put cheery t-towels in the kitchen. Yellow is wonderful. Add bright towels to the bathroom; choose a summery color for your bath and toilet mat and make your beds up with summer themed sheets.

White

White is the color of freshness and lightness. The more white items you can place around your home the more summery it will feel. White vases, ornaments, rugs and light shades will reinvigorate your rooms. Paint wooden furniture white. Add some white gauzy curtains to the windows and throw some white pillows around.

Floral Prints

Buy floral print cushion covers, wall hangings featuring flowers and hang paintings or prints with botanical themes. Think about buying a floral dinner set and a teapot with a floral design as an ornament on your kitchen dresser. Get creative and find funky new ways to add flowers to your décor.

Summer is fun; it is light, breezy and whimsical. Look for items that evoke those feelings and you can’t go wrong.
