Summer Anime 2014: Locodol Impressions

This is finally something that isn’t a second season of anything. I can’t say it’s completely original as we do see idol anime a lot lately, but at least it’s not a second season, nor a third, and thus I can give impressions of it more easily.

Locodol is the story of two young girls who find themselves becoming locodols, local idols, and whose goal is to give back a bit of life to the city they live in.

I am cheating a bit, I am reviewing two episodes instead of one but bear with me. It doesn’t change a lot of things as nothing is really happening anyway.

Let’s start with our two heroines. These two girls Yukari and Nanako are quite different from each other. The first one is a very soft-spoken and smart girl. I still don’t know how the hell she had the idea of becoming an idol but here she is. I quite like her mind you, she reminds me a bit of Tsumugi from K-On. She’s pretty adorable and makes me feel like protecting her. At the same time she is very reliable and does her job pretty well.

The second one is a lot more clumsy. Becoming an idol was a secret dream of hers that she had forsaken along the way. As such, she was tricked into becoming one by her uncle. And she ended up liking it. As I said she is a bit clumsy and a lot less reliable than the other part of the pair. It usually is the kind of character I can hardly stand but for some mysterious reasons I ended up liking her a lot. She might be clumsy and reluctant but she still does her best to do her job properly and she cares a lot about her new friend. It’s adorable too.

I really like everyone in Locodol mind you. Even the uncle.

I also really like the seiyuu Miko Itô and Sachika Misawa. Very good at singing and at being cute.

As for the story, well, I can’t really say a lot. The story of this kind of thing never is the highlight of the series.
Actually, nothing at all is the highlight of this series.

It’s average in every way, it’s idol stuff. The only thing a bit more original about this is that it happens in a small city but Wake up Girls!! already somehow did that.

If I had to compare Locodol to other series I’d say it’s between Idolm@ster and Tamayura. I find it very peaceful to watch.

I love Locodol, but I love idol stuff in general. It objectively can be boring for many people, as such and while I’ll continue until the end I am not sure I can recommend it. If you loved K-On, go watch Locodol. If not, well … The following two tabs change content below.
