Verdict on Sugarcane
Sugarcane is a documentary following the investigation into the abuse and missing children from an Indian residential school. It explores how the Catholic church forced Native American children to go through their reform school. However, they abused and killed hundreds of children.
Director Julian Brave NoiseCat investigates his family’s connection to the horrific events. His father was born in the community and it has caused lifelong problems for their relationship. The documentary examines the decades of abuse of power which has changed thousands of lives. It explores their attempts to find justice and peace, along with admission from the Catholic church.
This won’t be an easy watch, but it is an important watch because it shows how many unheard voices need to be listened to. It is a part of history that should never be forgotten as the emotional impact left on the victims.
