Sugar and Spice: Pain Perdu at Casper and Gambini’s

I have to share this. I can honestly say that one of the best simple ‘Pain Perdu’ or as some know it, French Toast, in town is at Casper and Gambini’s. I can still feel the sweet smell of caramel, softness of the tender bread melting on my tongue… and taste the fresh ingredients on my taste buds.

Make it a point to head down to Casper’s hungry, order a Pain Perdu and wait. Two big pieces of thick sliced bread, soaked and cooked with milk, butter and glazed with sugar on top, covered with just the right amount of caramel. A side container of extra caramel is served with the order for those who wish to add more sweetness to this sumptuous creation.

A scoop of vanilla ice-cream on the side adds a cold touch to the mix without altering the taste. Close your eyes and enjoy it as is, a bite after the other… It will transport you somewhere far beyond reality.
