Today I’m really excited to be sharing the stylish thoughts of  Mette from Denmark who writes the blog  The Yogastic Shopping Planner and who is also one of my Evolve Your Style members.

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is flirty, unexpected, current, genuine, ornate and fun! With a dash of bad-ass rock-chic…

Who are your style icons?
Denmarks Crown Princess Mary – our Aussie. We are just about the same age, and growing up, I was secretly in love with Crown Prince Frederik. Mary (or her stylist) is great at switching up her style and is excellent at casual + workwear. She mixes old with new, cheap with expensive and dares to wear both trends and classics.

What is the secret to great style?
To know what you look great in both with regards to color and cut. To wear great shoes and to change your hair regularly. I think a lot of style blogs forget how important a current haircut is to a look. If you are stuck in a rut style wise – change your hair! And experiment, try on a million things and see what you like. Let go of past convictions that you can’t wear this and that – like one of mine: I can’t wear hats! Turned out to be wrong.

What are your top tips for looking stylish when travelling?
Bring anything that doesn’t wrinkle and can be worn several times without washing. I keep track of how often I wash my clothes, so I know which ones have more mileage with regards to washing. Oh – and anything made out of silk with spandex will not wrinkle! The more you can get of that stuff the better!

What is your current obsession?
It’s probably not correct to call it a current obsession, since my interest in tracking my wardrobe has stayed with me since I was about 15 years old. I work in computer science today and wrote my own computer program 20 years ago to put together random outfits from what I already own. This includes accessories and makeup. Every day I dress by the lists my program outputs – with some common sense thrown in too, not everything works together. It helps to know you colours. And it is very clear to me when something isn’t working anymore. If I don’t want to wear an item on the list, it is time to let it go.

What’s your secret to making yourself stand out?
I try to only buy wardrobe pieces with some element of interest. I have never bought whole outfits and seldom wear the exact same outfit more than once. I have a small wardrobe, but since most of it works together, it is much easier to put together new outfits every day. And I created a shopping plan in March 2014 – hence the title of my blog, that tells me exactly what to shop for every month over a five year period! The secret is to buy versatile items that will work with what I already have and will be very different from what is already in my closet. “More of the same will not give you more options, just more clothes”.

What is the one thing you would spend a lot of money on?
Shoes, shoes and shoes.

What is the one thing you wouldn’t spend a lot of money on?
Stuff that wears out fast – I’m a master of staining lighter clothes, so anything white will not be splurge for me.

The one piece of advice most women need but don’t get?
Almost everything will age and stop being wearable. You can find classics that will last you a lifetime, but they are rare. Consider everything you have that is more than five years old. It is probably not stylish anymore. I realize it is a harsh statement. If you care about fashion, you are able to find a way to make things work longer, but if you are just like the woman next door, this is good advice. If you can’t part with them, put them away for 20 years and they just might work again – for your daughter.
