Stylish Thoughts – Suzanne CarilloWhat is the secret to great style?

Great style is about knowing yourself and your body, believing in yourself and working with what you have to create an accurate visual representation of your soul on the outside for all the world to see. Personal confidence is paramount for great style.

What is the one thing you would spend a lot of money on?

Almost all of my wardrobe has been purchased secondhand. Sustainable, slow fashion is a priority for me. My secret sometimes-splurge is footwear. If my feet aren't happy I'm miserable.

Do you have a signature piece or style?

Even though I'm only 5'4″ I'm a huge fan of maxi dresses and skirts. They very comfortable and can elongate the body when they fit correctly.

What's your secret to making yourself stand out?

Choosing vintage clothing and wearing hats helps ensure I don't blend in with the crowd.

The one piece of advice most women need but don't get?

You are not defined by your age, you are an individual. Dress for yourself and stop worrying about what other people think.

What is your favourite current trend?

Trends are developed to promote unnecessary consumption. I don't believe in or follow trends.

What's your favourite short cut to style?
It's important that my clothes communicate how I want to be perceived by the world without having to ever open my mouth. I've written about creating a "style statement" on my blog. A well chosen style statement helps guide me when shopping and dressing.

How would you describe your personal style?

Artistic, unique, relevant, fun and strong. An eclectic mix of vintage pieces, bold colours, textures and prints.
