Stylish Thoughts – Lady Melbourne

This week’s Stylish Thoughts is from the blogger Phoebe who writes the blog Lady Melbourne.

What is the secret to great style?
It can’t be learned, you either have it or you don’t in my book. Chanel, Vreeland, Hepburn- I don’t even need to use their first name and we can all conjure how truly stylish those women were. That said, I believe style is about understanding, and they all understood their body shape.

What is the one thing you would spend a lot of money on?
Shoes, bags and bras. The rest can be from an op-shop for all I care!

What is the one thing you wouldn’t spend a lot of money on?
I don’t like to spend a lot of money on clothes I don’t like to wear. You won’t see me in trendy gym gear, it’s leggings and an old t-shirt for me.

What are your top tips for looking stylish when travelling?
Natural fibres that breath are important, so cotton, merino wool and silk. I love jersey because it stretches and generally doesn’t crinkle so you can walk off a long haul flight looking (relatively) stylish.

What’s the secret to looking polished?
Clean hair, white teeth and manicured nails. Doesn’t matter what else you’re wearing, look at the Olsen twins as an example. Some times they look like hobos, but they are always personally groomed to perfection.

Who inspires you?
My mother, my girlfriends and great women like Coco Chanel, Gloria Steinam, Malala Yousafzai, Julia Gillard…I could go on and on!

The one piece of advice most women need but don’t get?
You do not need to color your hair. It would turn the beauty industry on its head, but its true.

What’s your favorite short cut to style?

A crisp white shirt, saves the day every time.

What’s the worst current trend?
Crocs. There are no words.

Lady like glamour with a modern twist.
