What is the one thing you would spend a lot of money on?

Definitely investment pieces. Those wardrobe basics that I reach for over and over again.

What is the one thing you wouldn't spend a lot of money on?

Flash in the pan fashion pieces. If I think a piece is really 'in' but I love it, I shop at the budget end of the high street.

How do you balance new trends with a more timeless look?

I have a love for jackets, scarves and hats. I often wear really well cut basics and accessorise with a jacket that's bang on trend, or a scarf in the season's top colour. Choosing trendy accessories keeps the cost of flirting with trends down to a minimum.

What is your current obsession?

My current and ongoing obsession is my hat collection. I only started wearing them a couple of years ago but I can't get enough of them! They can make a simple outfit look striking, add colour to the face and hide a multitude of bad hair days!

The one piece of advice most women need but don't get?

I can guarantee that the majority of women worry about what they wear, how they look, whether their outfit looks good and whether they've got it 'right'. Know this: there is no right, there is only what makes you happy. If YOU feel good in something wear it!

What's the best piece of style wisdom you've ever received?

Get comfortable in your own skin. Learn to love yourself, flaws and all. A confident woman cannot help but look good - no matter what she wears. I once had no confidence in myself and finding it has made a huge difference to how I portray myself style-wise, which is why I talk a lot about self development in midlife over on my blog.

What's your favourite short cut to style?

Always have a 'uniform'. Get some great basics which you know you can grab, throw on and accessories easily. It makes rushing out through the door for last minute meetings, etc a doddle.

How would you describe your personal style?

Eclectic, and still a work in process. As a woman who used to hide in shapeless beige clothes it's been a bit of a style journey for me. It wasn't until a few years ago that I started experimenting with fashion, so I still make plenty of mistakes. I do share these with my readers though, I like to think that they enjoy sharing the evolution of my style with me.

Who are your style icons?

I've been a member of The Over 40 Collective for just over a year now. We are seven bloggers, all over 40 (most of us are now over 50) and we work together, support each other and showcase each other's styles. Our styles are all completely different but I cannot tell you how much I have learned from these amazing women
