STYLE: Retro Shades Part 1

By Jsleigh14 @jsleigh14

With the summer sun now up in the air, everyone’s pulling out their sunglasses to protect their eyes in the sleekest way possible. In the past year, retro sunglasses from the 80′s have made a huge comeback into fashion. Like every trend, I was at first unsure of how much I liked these shades, since they’re very different what I was used to wearing. A year later, I now have a mini collection of retro shades that I constantly reach for. I find that these sunglasses are versatile, trendy, and flattering on most face shapes, which is why it’s okay to have more than one pair of them.

1. Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses

The most classic retro shades ever are definitely the Ray-Ban Wayfarers. These sunglasses have been manufactured by the company since the mid 1900′s and haven’t changed much since. The wayfarers are crowned for being the best-selling sunglasses in history, and are also frequently spotted on celebrities (it’s hard to see Bruno Mars without them). I wear my wayfarers with absolutely anything, but when I want to nail the Cali-summer look, I opt for a straw fedora and a linen shirt.

2. Gucci Rectangle Frame Sunglasses

The latest addition to my sunglasses collection are these Gucci Rectangle Frame sunglasses. These sunglasses have a more square frame than the wayfarers, which give them a funky “back-to-the-future” sort of look. The shape of these shades works particularly well for those with triangular faces, which is why I got them. I now wear these shades with casual outfits in lieu of my aviators from time to time.

3. American Apparel Cortland Sunglasses

It’s a little bit of a challenge to pull off these vintage-look American Apparel Cortland Sunglasses, but it can’t be denied that they make a statement. These teashades have been seen on a wide variety of iconic celebrities such as John Lennon and Lady Gaga, so they definitely have their place in the world of fashion. I can’t say I wear these sunglasses often, since their small circle lenses make them slightly impractical. But when I do wear them, I match them with dressier timeless clothes such as collared shirts and polos to stick to their vintage appeal.
