Body cam video shows police officers from Ohio rushing in the middle of busy intersection and jumping into immediate action. Police officers Sidders and Oklander were helping a disabled motorist when suddenly something more important came up.
There was a chocking infant in the car in front of them and just when they saw this, jumped into action to help the mother. As soon as he reached the car, Officer Sidders took the baby girl in his hands, turned her over and started tapping her back. Then, his partner hit baby Tyrra a bit harder to try and get out whatever was caught in her throat.
The infant’s mom looked terrified, but the tactic worked and the baby started breathing. You can hear the relieved officer say, “I can hear air moving. She’s moving air. Okay, she’s breathing.”
The officers did exactly the right thing, as administering the standard Heimlich maneuver on a baby is dangerous because they are too small to have pressure on their chests.
The mother had stopped and put her hazards on in the middle of the intersection when she realized Tyra was choking on her milk in the back seat. She was in the back seat trying to help Tyra when the police officers appeared just at the moment her baby stopped breathing.
It was a great stroke of luck for the frightened mom that Oklander and Sidders were there at the exact moment they were needed.
