Retinol. Sigh. That miracle solution touted by so many as the next best thing to the ellusive fountain of youth has, until now, proven to be more hype than help, more pain than panacea. Previous brands have only managed to offer excessive flaking and sensitive skin. I certainly didn’t want to experience that again!
For one last attempt, I decided to give the StriVectin Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner a go. With its claim of only a subtle infusion of retinol incorporated in its NIA-114TM technology, it promised to nourish and moisturize. My fingers were crossed, hoping to finally find the brand that could actually deliver on its promise!

The directions read “Use as the last step in skincare routine.” The cream barely has any smell and the texture is light and absorbed quickly by the skin. It works well with makeup and it leaves my face radiant, yet shine free. It actually reduced my pores after one use, and after weeks of using the Retinol Pore Refiner, my skin got noticeably smoother. Most days, I applied it without makeup. It gave my skin a matte finish look, like after putting press powder on, without the feelings of dryness, tightness or sensitivity. I love this product. Admittedly a bit pricey at $99, but worth every penny if you dislike seeing those big pores as much as I do.
I also like that the product is vegan-friendly, but I’m not sure if it’s cruelty-free.
