Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary- For Me, It Was Tuesday
Quick Take:It was serendipitous. Sometimes I check Tubi, just to see if there’s something there to review, and right at the top of recommendations was Street Fighter. No audio description. 30th Anniversary. This is one of what I could call a “Good Bad Flick”, meaning I enjoy this, but I also think it is terrible. I remember being disappointed even as a kid, but also kinda blown away. What they do with various characters is just weird. Blanka? I guess it was always hard to put him on screen. The exception the the rule is Raul Julia, who is hamming it up in his final role, and he has one really perfect line. “The day I came to your village was the worst day of your life. For me, it was Tuesday.” I love that line. i miss Raul Julia. This one was for me. I own this on DVD, where it also lacks audio description, and there are very few bad films that work for me the way Street Fighter does. But this is corny, silly, and somehow fun to laugh at. I’d love audio description, but it would probably take the film seriously. I’m not sure this is supposed to be taken seriously. We need a team of audio description professionals, who essentially do an MST3K version of audio description just for certain films. It isn’t normally kosher to point out when something looks wonky, but sometimes, you need to point out cheap visual effects, bad dubs, lame fight choreography, fake wigs, or whatever other things are making for maligned experiences. Thanks Tubi. I can always trust you to know exactly what awful thing I need in any given moment. For more, check out my video.
