Strange Darling- A Spooky Season Review
It is actually funny how I’ve seen a few films this year that I adored the twists to, and I want to encourage you to experience this movie cold. All you need to know, is this movie worked on me. I was aware of the film, and its contents going in, and I found it interesting that the person doing the most press for this was Giovanni Ribisi, who isn’t in the film, nor did he direct. He’s the cinematographer, and that’s something that is often really hard to appreciate in terms of audio description. I think this track maybe had a few nods to his choices, but most of this is a lark of an idea that really works if you know nothing.
So, I would say, the genre is horror, I didn’t find the film exceedingly gory (in a year where we’ve had The Substance and Terrifyer 3, I think the bar has been raised anyway), nor is it full of anything people might run from. It is R, so don’t take the kids. But, try and see this with as little knowledge as possible. The film tells you exactly what you need to know, when you need to know it, and the audio description track did an excellent job of supporting that.
