Bernadette Martin, Founder of Visibility Branding, is a Storyteller, Personal Brand Strategist,
Speaker and Author of "Storytelling about Your Brand Online & Offline". She recently launched Storytelling Evenings, a throwback to the Parisian salons of the 1920s where artists, writers, and creative people would gather to share stories and ideas.
I attended the latest Storytelling Evening a few weeks ago on a Sunday night. The guest storyteller was Hilary Kaiser, author of WWII Voices: American GI’s and the French Women Who Married Them, and French War Brides in America.
The gathering was at Bernadette’s comfortable and spacious hi-rise on Blvd. Richard Lenoir in the 11th arr. and the evening started at 7:30PM. Bernadette put out a nice spread of hearty, enough to be dinner, appetizers to munch on. There were about 14 guests and I knew already some of them. We mingled and softly networked for the next 90 minutes or so until the presentation.
Hilary Kaiser is an engaging and entertaining storyteller, passionately speaking about a subject close to her heart. She spoke about the courtships of American soldiers in WWII with French women and how some of them unexpectedly fell in love with their future wives. She told us one touching story about a young soldier falling for a teenage girl from the French countryside and how they were separated for a few years until they met again and married. She turned his story into a play and handed out a short scene to the audience. She asked for volunteers to read the different parts, and I shot up my hand and landed the part. I don’t know if many of you know or not but I used to do some acting in New York before I moved to Paris, so it was fun to act again.
There was a Q & A after the presentation and the evening ended about 10:30. Future speakers in September, October, and November include Natalie Lazarus, speaking about bringing her play A Picasso to France, Sandy Becky speaking about starting a corporate beehive project with some work colleagues, and the hugely talented opera soprano Elisa Doughty, who was my Parisian of the Month. Events cost 25 euros per person plus a 1.38 euro service fee and includes appetizers, wine and other beverages.
