Steve Harvey brought in the New Year marrying his NYE co-host Maria Menounos.
Steve Harvey and television host, Maria Menounos, who had a brain tumor removed in July, hosted Fox’s NYE show. Right before midnight, Menounos surprised her father, and mother whose battling stage 4 breast cancer, and the rest of the world by marrying her boyfriend of 20 years, Keven Undergaro. The couple got married on live TV right in the middle of Times Square.
Getting married on TV was not originally Menounos’ idea; as she told People, a producer said they’d wanted to have a live wedding during the New Year’s Eve broadcast, but they hadn’t found a couple. “She said, ‘Unless you and Keven want to get married,'” recalled the bride-to-be, who said no initially. “I was nervous but I got in the car and kept thinking about it and I was like, ‘Wait, this really is kind of perfect.'”
If you listen closely you can hear Mariah Carey performing her hit single Vision of Love in the background, as the couple exchanged vows.
Mariah was part of ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, that was also broadcast live from Times Square.
