Steph Curry Joins DeVon Franklin On Faith Based Movie ‘Breakthrough’
Steph Curry and his entertainment company Unanimous Media are executive producing the faith based drama ‘Breakthrough.’

Based on a book by Joyce Smith titled The ImpossibleBreakthrough tells the true story of how Joyce’s son, John Smith, fell through the ice and drowned, and was declared legally dead. A hour later, however, the basketball-loving 14-year-old was miraculously revived through the power of prayer.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Curry said, “John’s story is nothing short of incredible.”  “It’s a story about the power of prayer and perseverance and one I immediately connected to. After reading the script, I knew I wanted to be a part of bringing it to life onscreen.”

DeVon Franklin, who produced Breakthrough, said Curry was moved by the true-life story and the movie “checks all his boxes: faith, true story, family and sports.” Curry and Franklin had a meeting on general movie projects and Franklin pitched him Breakthrough, the movie he was working at the time. Franklin gave him the script, which Curry read almost immediately; 24 hours later the basketball star was ready to get involved, according to THR.

The film stars Chrissy Metz stars and Topher Grace and is set for a April 12, 2019, release.
