Starting the month of May with some rockin’ photos in Mariveles, Bataan!
It was my first time to set foot on this historical province and I have to admit that its hidden marvels are really breathtaking!
Our first stop: Sisiman Bay. “Hindi ka magsisisi sa Sisiman!” (You won’t regret going to Sisiman!) Upon arrival, you will immediately get a glimpse of San Miguel peak. According to our guide, it’s a living rock (buhay na bato) that can be climbed in 15 minutes. Sounds easy breezy, right? Fun fact: Solenn Heussaff made it to the peak for her Milo TVC! Sisiman is also famous of its lighthouse. But don’t be deceived by its looks, the lighthouse isn’t operational! Make the most out of it by playing with perspective. Just look for the right angle and you can push, hug, crush, kick, and do whatever you like with it!
Though Jollibee comes in handy, make your Mariveles trip extra special with good food! So where to lunch? Pupung Grill and Restobar. We filled our stomachs with sizzling tuna sisig, ensaladang talong, lechon kawali, and of course (extra) rice. Apart from the resto’s diverse food choices, its location by the bay makes it unique. As you wait for your order, you can capture a refreshing scenery and upload your story in an instant! Yes, Pupung is a free wifi zone! Quick tip: you need not ask for the password, it’s on the tissue holder!
While there’s a lot to be done in Mariveles, a day trip isn’t complete without going to the beach. Many tourists prefer cove hopping in Five Fingers, but if you’re on tight budget, then head to Princess Anne. Entrance fee is P30 per head and cottage rent costs P500 per group. These rates are more affordable compared to the overly expensive fees of their neigbor Claubel Beach Resort (aka Hawla). Not to mention the latter’s rude frontliner. Pffft. Disclaimer: Don’t expect a white sand beach for this isn’t your much-loved Boracay. But what’s striking is the perfect sight of a nearby cove, the blue sea, and an endless horizon. And this marvelous landscape makes Mariveles the ‘Batanes of the West’.
