Starting New Abstract Floral

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

Recently I painted some abstract florals on small canvases, but today I started one on a tall slim canvas 10" x 48".  I liked the effect I got on the smaller canvases, but I wasn't sure how this design would work in the narrow format.

I chose red and orange as my main floral colors, on a pale peach background.  First I painted the background and let it dry.  Then I began making the large petals, with three orange blossoms and two red, trying to fill as much of the canvas as possible.

Once the basic design was down, I started adding other shades of orange and red to the petals, and lighter colors for highlights.  I painted some light permanent green leaf and vine patterns in the background, then drew lines in alizarin crimson, orange, and burnt umber.

I will let this dry and work on it again tomorrow.
