I wanted this new abstract floral painting to be able to be paired with the one I just completed, so I painted the whole canvas the same background color, a pale peach. Then I decided to make the actual blossoms in yellow and red. The red was the same one used in the first floral.
I began with cadmium yellow light, forming the basic petals to cover as much of the canvas as possible from left to right. I painted the yellow blossoms in the top, center and bottom of the canvas, with two red ones in between.
In the background, I painted leaves and vines with permanent green light, adding lines in emerald green. I put highlights in the petals with parchment for the yellow flowers and yellow for the red flowers, making the center buds in orange and dark red.
I drew lines in Indian yellow and alizarin crimson, then decided to let the painting dry so I could work on it again tomorrow.
