Starring Jerry As Himself- A Slamdance Winner Shot In Florida! Filming In Florida!!!
Quick Take: This was basically a must-see for me, as a member of the Critics Association Of central Florida. We have a category that spotlights movies made in Central Florida, and there were only two choices. This was one. It’s a slam dance winning documentary that blends a bit of fiction in with fact,but mostly focuses on the immigrant experience, namely on the filmmaker’s father. I’ll let you guess his name.
no, this didn’t have audio description. the other choice was Suncoast, which was a film I reviewed earlier in the year. While that did have audio description, aside from a solid performance from Laura Linney, I wasn’t a fan. After sitting through this, which isn’t entirely in English, and did not have audio description, it was basically a coin toss. Ultimately, the fact that a film that had a larger budget and Oscar nominated actors was in a coin toss situation with an independent Slamdance title, really says more about the strength of this film, and the weakness of the other. One film has all the benefits, the other made a lot with nothing. If you don’t need audio description, this is (as far as I can tell) at least an interesting film. For more, check out my video.
