Starbucks Gingerbread Lattes are a little taste of heaven in a cup. I normally prefer small, independently owned coffee houses over Starbucks, but every year in November I find myself peaking into Starbucks to see if the gingerbread lattes have arrived just in time for the Christmas season. Gingerbread is one of my all-time favorite things, but having a gluten allergy and no aptitude for complicated gluten-free baking, I don’t get to eat it very often (hint, hint mom). A Starbucks Gingerbread Latte is the perfect substitute as I inhale the nutmeg sprinkled on top and feel the warmth on it on my throat. I’m always surprised when the barristers ask if I want cream on top. Of course I want cream. It’s just not the same without the rich texture as the cream melts into the espresso. Calories don’t count when they taste this good do they? I’ve been excited to see a few other coffee shops offer gingerbread lattes, but after the first sip, I’m disappointed. It’s just not the same. Come January I scour the city to see which Starbucks locations still have the requisite gingerbread syrup, waiting in anticipation for the barrista’s answer. Before too long I know that time will come when it’s all gone and my holiday romance with gingerbread lattes will have to wait until the next November to be rekindled.
