These are the trips ... of a stolen spaceship. A new Star Trek cartoon series is coming to Nickelodeon in 2021 and is called Star Trek: Prodigy.
The title, logo, and storyline were revealed during Comic-Con 2020 in an online Star Trek Universe panel, where we learned that the cartoon was following a group of "lawless teens" taking a derelict Starfleet ship for a ride . On the way, they exude adventure, meaning and maybe even salvation.
More than 350 panels are taking place for the virtual Comic-Con 2020, including Marvel, The Walking Dead, Bill and Ted and more. Here is how to see Comic-Con @ Homeand here are some of them The best comic-con moments of the past years.
Star Trek: Prodigy is developed by Kevin and Dan Hageman, two of the Emmy laureates behind Trollhunters and Ninjago. It is aimed at a younger audience, unlike those other animated Trek series Lower Decks, which premieres in the streaming service CBS All Access 6th of August. Star Trek: lower decks has a more anarchic sensibility thanks to the creator Mike McMahan, a former author and producer of Rick and Morty (Disclosure: CNET is part of ViacomCBS).
Captain Kirk and his crew went into animated action in the lovingly remembered animation series in the early 1970s. More recently, Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard have joined the Trek universe. They will shortly be joined by a show after Mr. Spock's beginnings aboard the Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and a series introducing Section 31 of the Starfleet Black Ops team.
Discovery and Picard can now be streamed CBS All Access or Netflix and Amazon outside of the United States.
