Star Trek Discovery Returns + Jonathan Frakes Directing

Posted on the 06 January 2018 by Entertainmentjolt @Entertain_Jolt

Star Trek Discovery returns with the second half of its first season on Sunday, January 7th.

The new episode Despite Yourself (1×10) will air on CBS All Access and will be the start of the release of new episodes for the remainder of the season.  Jonathan Frakes will be directing this episode of Star Trek Discovery, whom you may know as Commander William Riker from Star Trek: The Next Generation.  This will not be the first Star Trek show that Frakes has directed either, his credits also include Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek Voyager as well as the Star Trek movies First Contact and Insurrection

If you’ve missed the first nine episodes of Star Trek Discovery, you can certainly still catch up!  The show can be watched via CBS‘ streaming service, CBS All Access, or by adding it as an Amazon Channel that you can purchase if you live in the United States.  In other areas, you can catch Star Trek Discovery on Netflix

Star Trek Discovery takes place between Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation and follows Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green), a young and determined officer.  In the trailer, it shows how the Klingon Empire has been fractured for generations and seems to be the main conflict for the show (or at least its current season).  For those who are familiar with Klingons in previous Star Trek series, these will appear quite different.  It feels like Burnham is trying to find her place in the universe, whether it is to follow logic or not and whether a change is necessary.  The show also seems ready to make nods to other series by including Harry Mudd in the trailer.  By the end of the trailer, we find out that Burnham is responsible for starting a war (from what we see, it’s clear that it’s with the Klingons) and her being asked if she wants to help stop it.

I’ve already caught myself up with Star Trek Discovery and I have friends with mixed feelings about the show.  Currently, I’m loving the characters and their relationships and developments throughout the first nine episodes.  I’m extremely excited that Jonathan Frakes will be directing the next episode and to see where the show goes from the cliffhanger we were left with in November.  Are you caught up with the show?  Waiting to binge watch the entire first season?  If you’re caught up, then what are you most looking forward to?
