The Italian word
"stiletto" comes from the Latin stilus, the thin pointed Roman
writing instrument used to engrave wax or clay tablets in ancient times. The
stiletto began to gain fame during the late Middle Ages, when it was the
secondary weapon of knights. A stiletto is a knife or dagger with a long
slender blade and needle-like point, primarily intended as a stabbing weapon.
The term is also used interchangeably with stiletto heel, a long, thin, high
heel for certain boots and shoes, for women ~ danger ! Not all high slim heels
merit the description stiletto ~ a real stiletto heel has a stem of solid steel
or alloy.
Few women know as
well as J.K. Rowling that the pen is mightier than the sword – but when it
comes to fashion she has revealed little compares to the power of the stiletto.
The Harry Potter author has spoken of her passion for shoes – the taller the
better – and confessed herself no exception to the millions of women ‘obsessed’
by footwear. This is post is more specifically about a
product that comes with a 1000 year guarantee – one that made of stainless
steel and solid silver and one that will
not 'age, wear, or deteriorate in any
way'
Daily Mail reports that - It's a sad day for any woman when she finally has to admit her favourite heels are simply worn out. But having to bin your trusty shoes could become a thing of the past if the latest footwear invention takes off. That's because a shoe designer has a launched a pair of stainless steel high heels which come with a one thousand-year guarantee. The everlasting stilettos have been created by 48-year-old designer Chris Shellis, from Birmingham and he claims they are the world's most comfortable heels- despite being made from the same metal as knives and forks.

took two years to design the shoes and he claims they are the worlds most
comfortable heels. The shoes have been
made out of tough stainless steel and solid silver but have been lined with
permanent silicon liners, and made to flex to accommodate the foot….. the
Borgezie Riviera stilettos have a staggering £1,000 price tag but Chris claims
they are an investment for the future ! …. So how many of you would readily
fall in for something that will not age or deteriorate and comes with a
lifetime supply of heart-shaped soles and heels which are the only components
which need replacing…. ..the designer claims that it has orthopedic qualities
besides being the fashion statement.
Moving
away, here is another story of drunken brawl ~ the offender was a mother-of-two and the article used was
‘stiletto’ … it left a 1.5inch gash on a woman by being hit
with a stiletto in a drunken rage, yet the offender has escaped with just a community order. It
is reported that Angela Roberts, 45, had drunk five pints of lager when she
heard that her father had been assaulted at a nearby Wetherspoons pub in
Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Assuming the attacker
to be Valerie Barrett, whom she had rowed with in a different pub earlier,
Roberts went to the Reginald Mitchell pub in Stoke-on-Trent
in search of her. A court heard that as she walked in, she heard a bouncer
describe the attacker over his radio, and spotted Miss Barrett, who matched the
description. Ms Roberts struck Miss Barrett in the head with the
stiletto, gashing her head and leaving her covered in blood.
Later
she pleaded guilty to one charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in
the Court. The court heard that there was a heated discussion and altercation
before the stiletto attack. Her counsel defended the offender stating she had
no previous convictions and was having counseling as a result of the incident.
It was claimed that 'She took off her shoes, not to use as a weapon. When she
approached this woman, they were in her hands.' The woman was handed a 12-month
community order and told to pay £750 compensation. Sentencing, Judge David
Fletcher said: 'I accept it was a single blow, and the stiletto was not taken
off to be used as a weapon. It was further said that the main aggravating
feature was the amount of alcohol that had been consumed.
To end with that
model – it is Imelda Marcos, widow of former Philippine President Ferdinand
Marcos, in news for amassing a prized shoe collection that most women would
kill for. Imelda began her career as a
local singer and model in Manila
before meeting her husband Ferdinand, who would later be elected President.
After the declaration of martial law in 1972, Imelda began holding positions in
the national government that allowed her to travel the world and accumulate
artwork and real estate. Despite facing numerous cases involving alleged
corruption, she was not imprisoned and she continued to wield power. Her
ability to survive upheavals in her life has led her to be called the
"Steel Butterfly".
The Marcoses fled
the Philippines at the climax of the army-backed 'people power' revolt in 1986
and left behind staggering amounts of personal belongings, clothes and art
objects at the palace, including at least 1,220 pairs of the former first
lady's shoes. If you are to ask – what happened later to her shoe stash, recent
news suggest that the collection have been badly damaged by termites, floods
and general neglect.
