St. Stephens Hampstead Heath Wedding Venue
A beautiful, unconventional wedding space!
St Stephen’s Hampstead Heath wedding venue has got to be one of my all-time favorite venues that we’ve ever worked at.
St Stephen’s is located at the meeting point of Rosslyn Hill and Pond Street in Hampstead Heath and is a massive focal point for people from the local community. We first discovered St Stephen’s last year when one of our couples was married there and from the word go we were blown away.
Everything about the building is striking. St Stephen’s is a grade 1 listed building and is built from many different types of brick that are arranged to form all kinds of really beautiful mosaic patterns and decorative details. That epic confetti photo sure looks good with such an awesome building as the backdrop! St Stephen’s even has a little garden area at the front, which is super handy for canopies and group photos – especially in London where outside space away from the public can sometimes be hard to come by.
St Stephen’s Hampstead Heath wedding venue has a truly amazing history. Originally built in 1869 to serve as a church, St Stephen’s was sadly made redundant in 1977 and remained empty for many years until it was eventually deconsecrated in 2002 and given into the care of St Stephen’s Restoration and Preservation Trust. After years of neglect during which the building suffered damage from squatters – the building has now been beautifully restored and is open to the public for the first time in 30 years! I for one am completely baffled as to how such an awe-inspiring space could ever have been closed away but really happy that it’s open and we get to photograph in such an amazing venue.
Inside, St Stephen’s is breathtaking. Recently, English Heritage awarded the Trust an award for rescuing the building and after having seen first hand the amazing restoration, I can well see why. The space is vast and can easily fit 150+ guests. St Stephen’s is fully licensed for civil ceremonies and has a beautiful mosaic strip that runs down the center of the hall – just perfect for some awesome walking up the aisle photos!
There is plenty of scope for couples to really make this space their own – up lighters and fairy lights wrapped around some of the many columns give the building an incredible atmosphere and look fantastic in the photographs. As St Stephen’s was once a church there is even a raised platform at one end of the room (where the altar used to be), which makes the perfect stage for a band and dance floor.
With the restoration work continuing at St Stephen’s Hampstead Heath wedding venue, it looks like the building is only going to get more beautiful. I can’t wait for our next opportunity to take photos at this stunning wedding venue!
