For many Irish people, Saint Patrick’s Day (17 March) isn’t complete without a pint or two of the country’s famous black dry stout Guinness. But, while Guinness’s position center stage in the St Patrick’s Day revelry is firmly entrenched, that doesn’t mean the manufacturers are resting on their laurels. The firm, which has a strong reputation for dreaming up memorable advertisements, has just released a new ad which has gone viral on YouTube.

In the ad, a group of befuddled-looking male mates are guided into a pub by a specialised sheepdog. Along the way they are herded away from other distractions such as a night in watching the big game, an indian restaurant, and a nightclub where scantily-clad girls dance enticingly.

St Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. It commemorates Saint Patrick (c. AD 387–461), the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. It has become a secular celebration of Irish culture in general.

“Probably the best ad you’ll see today. Just in time for St Patrick’s day, this ad treats men like the imbecilic sheep they are,” adjudged BuzzFeed.
