Sri Lanka pull off record-breaking chase to beat England by two wickets
Sri Lanka pulled off a stunning run chase to defeat England by two wickets in the ODI tri-series in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, on Thursday (October 22), chasing down a target of 430 runs with one ball to spare.

England posted 429-4 in their 50 overs, powered by captain Harry Brook’s record-breaking 202 off 116 balls, the highest individual score by an England batter in men’s ODIs.

Sri Lanka’s chase was led by Pavan Rathnayake, who scored 130, while Avishka Fernando made 97 and Dasun Shanaka added 97. Janith Liyanage sealed the victory with an unbeaten 61, hitting a six off the penultimate ball to take Sri Lanka to 430-8 in 49.5 overs.

The victory marks the second-highest successful run chase in men’s ODI history. (Newswire)
