A special commemorative postage stamp marking the 66 years of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Egypt was launched in Parliament recently.
Minister of Mass Media Dr. Bandula Gunawardena presented the commemorative stamp to the dignitaries including Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Sri Lanka Maged Mosleh.
Addressing the gathering, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that Egypt was the first Arab State to open a Diplomatic Mission in Colombo in 1957. The Speaker also mentioned that it is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields in future as well.
The Egyptian Ambassador to Sri Lanka His Excellency Maged Mosleh said that he expects to enhance the unbreakable friendship between the two countries that have a great history. The ambassador further mentioned that the Egyptian government will also issue a commemorative stamp marking the 66 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, in line with this programme.
Deputy Speaker Ajith Rajapaksa, Deputy Chair of Committees Angajan Ramanathan, Leader of the House Minister (Dr.) Susil Premajayantha, Members of Parliaments, Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General Chaminda Kularathna, Ambassadors of several Arab countries attended the event.
Also, Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media Mr. Anusha Palpita, Postmaster General Mr. M.R.P. Satkumara, Deputy Postmaster General Mr. Rajitha K Ranasinghe and a group of officials representing the postal department were also present on this occasion.
