Sprints have shared the video for new single ‘Adore Adore Adore’, a song that finds Karla Chubb offering observations on how a woman fronting a punk band is still held to the patriarchal standards of acceptability: “There is a different set of invisible rules I am supposed to abide by – I am supposed to fit their mold and give them what they want – and not deliver what it is I am here to do. So at a time when trans rights are under attack, people are trying to force upon us what they think a woman is or should be, this is the outward expression of my own frustration, struggle and rage.”
These frustrations burst through every frenetic note and powerful word – ‘Does this picture now not suit your taste, have I disgraced what was built by your very eyes?’ – as Karla calls out these outdated views and rallies against them with true punk spirit: ‘They never called me beautiful. They only called me insane.’
