Square Enix’s multiplayer game Foamstars will be launched on PlayStation on February 6. Similar to Fall Guys, Foamstars will be released as a free download for PlayStation Plus subscribers in February. It was confirmed on the PlayStation blog that Square Enix will give free access to them from February 6th to March 4th. The game will be accessible to subscribers to PS Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium. It will also be available for download to subscribers. However, non-subscribers will need to purchase the game from the PlayStation Store for $29.99 after March 5, and they need to have a PlayStation Plus membership.

Foamstars is a 4v4 shooter game and bears similarities to Nintendo’s shooter game Splatoon, although it focuses on team members working together and using each other’s qualities to win against opponents. It will also have modes such as Rubber Duck Party, Mission Mode, and Squad Mission. Foamstars will have regular free updates, and each season will have an optional pass worth $5.99. They will include new cosmetics, characters, and modes. In this game, players will need to coat the area with their team’s color, which will give an advantage to their teammates and hinder the activities of their opponents. Foamstar is different from Splatoon as the foam will be a 3D matter.

Apart from that, Square Enix revealed that Toylogic, the video game developer, has used the generative AI program Midjourney to implement some AI-generated illustrations in the game. Square Enix said in a statement, “AI was used in the creation of the in-game album covers for the music featured in the Foamstars’ soundtrack.” They added, “In this instance, we experimented with Midjourney using simple prompts to produce abstract images. We loved what was created and used them as the final album covers players will see in the game. Everything else was created entirely by our development team.”
