Spin Sin: Charlize Theron Gives Her Take On Tia Mowry SoulCycle Spat
Soul Cycle’s biggest bitch fight is usually when everyone takes the light weights and you’re stuck front row with the heavy shit, peddling to a Mandy Moore remix and thinking how you just want to clock Becky the trainer in the face if she tells you to crank the resistance up one more time. Well, in 2014, it turned into K.O. Sister, Sister vs. Atomic Blonde in the tabloids, as Tia Mowry snitched to InTouch that Charlize Theron would have sooner lit herself on fire with that $40 SoulCycle candle than talk to her. Three years later, E! reports Charlize is clapping back and saying that can’t be true, because she’s a damn Girl Scout at spin, thank you very much!
While working the press circuit for Atomic Blonde, Charlize popped by Watch What Happens Live and Andy Cohen used his favorite non-staged game Plead The Fifth to ask her the important stuff (apart from whether or not she really ghosted Sean Penn). Tia said back in 2014 that Charlize had been the Satan of spin:
“She wasn’t very nice to me. I said, ‘Hi,’ and she actually rolled her eyes and said, ‘Oh, my God.’ I wasn’t over-the-top. I know how to approach another celebrity. Charlize was just mean. I’m just being honest.”
When Andy brought this up, Charlize jokingly said, “What a bitch!” before dismissing it because it showed up in InTouch, and nothing printed in there can be accurate, right?! Wrong. Tia herself gave the mag an exclusive, which Andy mentioned, leading Charlize to talk about how she’s basically an on-site masseuse at SoulCycle and only greets people like she’s working the front door at Costco:
“I’m really nice at SoulCycle, actually, because once my endorphins kick in I’m actually almost too friendly. I’m always touching people, like, ‘Hey!’”
That being said, she was dating Sean Penn at the time, so it’s hard for me to imagine her going around petting all her classmates like schnauzers and giving them little friendly greetings. Sleeping with that on a nightly basis would have made it much more likely that Charlize was an inch away from knocking over the bikes and flipping off half the room just ‘cuz, which is why I’m inclined to believe Tia. After the news of her bad ‘tude hit the magazine, one report said Charlize fumed to management trying to get Tia banned from SoulCycle (oh no! Not that!), but a source close to Charlize later shot that down and she reiterated that on WWHL.
That sneaky Andy kept at it, asking bluntly if she ever rolled her eyes, which Charlize responded, “I’m not an eye roller, but I would be like, ‘F–k off.’” There we go! That’s much more the speed of a Sean Penn bedmate! You can see Charlize’s full explanation below:
